The scholarship supports advanced inter-disciplinary research in physical-ecological processes. The scholar will be supervised by international experts from SWIMS and the Croucher Laboratory of Environmental Hydraulics (http://www.hku.hk/civil/envhydraulics), Department of Civil Engineering of HKU.
The scholar will focus his/her four-year PhD study on a designated interdisciplinary research project entitled ”Impact of Environmental Contaminants on Marine Organisms at the Cape d’Aguilar Marine Reserve, Hong Kong: Ecological Modelling and Risk Assessment”. This research project aims to address locally pressing marine pollution issues and provide a practical framework for monitoring and assessing the ecological risks of persistent and toxic pollutants in the Cape d’Aguilar Marine Reserve and adjacent waters. This project is an activity under the “Impact and Risk Assessment” task of the UGC Area of Excellence (AoE) on Marine Environmental Research and Innovative Technology.
The scholarship will cover the full cost of the four-year PhD Studentship, including maintenance and living expenses through a monthly stipend, University tuition fees, accommodation charges at SWIMS, and a research grant. During the candidature of the PhD, the scholar will receive a monthly stipend of HK$13,100 which may be adjusted according to inflation and cost of living in Hong Kong.
The Scholarship will be awarded to a permanent resident of Hong Kong or a national of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) with a First Class Honours Degree or equivalent, in science or engineering. Holders of a good master’s degree (M.Sc., M.Eng. or M.Phil.) will also be considered.
