Centre for Obesity Research 4-Year PhD Studentships : Birmingham, UK

Applications are invited for 4-year PhD studentships within the Centre for Obesity Research (www.obesity.bham.ac.uk). Students should apply for one of three available projects, with a first year involving a range of interdisciplinary training across the University of Birmingham’s obesity research groups as well as development of generic, transferable skills. In addition, further training will strengthen their research abilities and specific skills for the named project, to which the subsequent 3-year period will be dedicated.
The available projects are:
“Examining ethnic differences in body fat composition and role of lifestyle factors in any variation observed among British school children” – primarily based in School of Health & Population Sciences
“Promotion of quality physical activity engagement in children: Assessing the effectiveness of a community-based project in the field” – primarily based in School of Sport & Exercise Sciences
“The regulation of lipid accumulation in human adipocytes by glucocorticoids and exercise in adults and children” – joint between School of Clinical & Experimental Medicine and School of Sport & Exercise Sciences

Although there are three projects available, we only expect to appoint two studentships.

Enquiries should be directed to Dr Eliot Marston (e.d.marston@bham.ac.uk)

Applicants should have a strong commitment to scientific research in the areas relevant to the project they select, and hold or realistically expect to obtain at least an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in a relevant subject.

These positions are funded for university fees and a stipend at competitive rates and are for EU nationals or those who meet the recognised residency requirement as detailed in the link above.
