AstraZeneca Research Scholarship
Each year, one award is offered in conjunction with AstraZeneca Plc to a UK citizen post-doctoral scientist to conduct research on an aspect of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or Bio-informatics at any accredited US institution. The appointment will be for a minimum period of 10 months beginning at any point between 1 August and 30 April.
Award Benefits
The award is for £20,000 plus return travel paid in instalments directly to the grantee, the first of which is typically given just prior to departure from the UK. This funding is intended as a contribution towards any institutional fees, travel to/from the US, accommodation and general maintenance costs whilst in the US. Limited sickness and accident benefit coverage, visa sponsorship and processing and participation in a number of Fulbright Scholar events are also included.
Selection Criteria
Minimum eligibility for this award category:
- UK citizen (resident anywhere),
- hold or expect to receive a PhD in a relevant area before departure to the US.
Preference will be given to those who do not have extensive, recent experience in the US (6 months). Please read the Terms and Conditions for this award before making an application.
In making these awards the Commission is looking not only for academic excellence but a focused application, a range of extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright Programme and a plan to give back to your home country upon returning.
Applying
Applicants must draw up a detailed project outline and provide evidence that a US institution will agree to act as host and supervisor.
Applications will need to be posted to the Fulbright Commission.
Successful applicants will be invited for interviews at the Fulbright Commission on the date(s) listed below. Interviews will only be held on the indicated date(s) only and may not be rescheduled.
Proposals must receive endorsement from AstraZeneca Plc, which the Fulbright Commission will seek on behalf of successful applicants.
