Scholarships

The following scholarships are available:
1. The MBA program aims to attract the strongest applicants. For this reason, the MBA program offers a number of scholarships for candidates who are accepted for the academic year 2011-2012 based on:

2. The MBA program, within its social responsibility and contribution dimension of creating leaders of tomorrow, has announced 32 scholarships for the academic year 2011-2012. The scholarships will be awarded based on the academic achievements and work experience of applicants who have been accepted in the program and are currently working for the following organizations:

• Association of municipalities
• Authority for Supervision and Development of Cooperative Societies, Cooperative Societies
• Electricity Authority of Cyprus
• Cyprus Telecommunications Authority

Admission

Candidates must submit a completed application before the deadline, along with a copy of their academic degree(s), a verification from KYSATS if required, copies of certificates of other relevant examinations, and two recent photographs.

Admission Requirements:

• Degree from a recognized academic institution or equivalent.
• The program accepts students according to the selection criteria that focus on work experience and prior academic performance.
• Priority will be given to applicants who have at least 3 years of full-time work experience and superior academic performance, which may also be demonstrated through GMAT or GRE exams.
• Candidates that apply to the program in English must demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following: TOEFL or IELTS or GCE or equivalent, unless they hold a degree from an English speaking institution.
• Two recommendations from academics or people who are familiar with the work of the candidate.
• Applicants will be invited for a personal interview to assess their contribution potential to the program.

Master Scholarships University of Sydney in Human Rights

Applications are now being accepted for study and for scholarships in the Master of Human Rights and Democratisation (Asia Pacific) (MHRD).

The MHRD is a unique Master degree program in which students undertake a foundational semester of study at the University of Sydney, and then a second semester at one of the four partner universities:

Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia)
Mahidol University (Thailand)
Katmandu School of Law (Nepal)
University of Colombo (Sri Lanka)

Graduates of the course will gain an interdisciplinary understanding of human rights and democratisation in the Asia Pacific, and will have opportunities to research and examine the application of human rights and democratisation in the field with the partner institutions.

Course Structure

In the first semester at the University of Sydney, students will undertake a foundational course in social science, legal and political approaches to human rights and democratisation. During the second semester students will follow two core units of study complemented by either supervised research, an internship at an in-country organisation specialising in human rights/democratisation or undertake further specialised electives. Students must select one of the four partners universities listed above to undertake their second semester study.

Potential Students

We are looking for people who have a strong commitment to or experience on working on issues about human rights and democratisation. The degree will strongly benefit people already working in, or seeking to work in the fields of human rights and democratisation in our region.

Through a combination of academic and practical educational experiences, the objective of the program is to produce graduates who can support ongoing efforts to strengthen institutions dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights and democracy and to enhance a regional culture of human rights and democracy. Recognising the critical institutional developments that are taking place both regionally and in particular countries during this time, the program has been set up to ensure that human rights and democracy advocates in the region are well resourced to lead us into the next decades.

Scholarships

34 scholarships, covering course fees and a living and travel allowance, will be offered to outstanding applicants from across the Asia Pacific region. This is made possible with the support of a significant grant from the European Commission.

Scholarships will be available to citizens of Asia Pacific countries. The award of scholarships will be determined by academic qualifications and potential contribution to human rights and democratisation.

Applications for the MHRD close on 30 April 2011 and are considered upon receipt.
Applications for the Human Rights and Democratisation Scholarship close on 10 December 2010.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants are required to hold a Bachelor’s Degree in either humanities or social sciences or law from a recognised university or tertiary institution; or a Bachelor’s Degree in another area as deemed relevant by the University of Sydney and its partners.

English is the official language of instruction of the MHRD (Asia Pacific). International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 or above is required with no band below 6.0 (or equivalent in a recognised test).

Relevant practical experience in the area of human rights and/or democracy or a related field (for example, humanitarian aid or development) in inter-governmental, governmental, or non-governmental organisations is desirable but not required.

Applicants should also show a demonstrated interest in and commitment to human rights and democratisation.

This programme explores insights, tools and best practices for good governance in order that graduates could apply them in their future professional contexts. Graduates shall understand and be able to analyse, from the local to the global level, the governance problems which confront developing countries today.

The governance programme offers two tracks with specific objectives and courses:

The future of sustainable development is critically related to the promotion of better governance at the local, national, regional and international level. At once a cause and a consequence of governance failures, violent conflict is incompatible with sustainable development. Central in this nexus between development, governance and conflict are processes of state formation, state failure and state reconstruction. Adopting a political economy perspective, the study programme analyses governance problems and possible responses with due account of specific historical pathways of countries and the interaction between the national state level, local society level dynamics and the impact of global developments.

Most of our students are engaged in development, professionally and/or as researchers. The objective of the Master’s programme is to provide them with multidisciplinary theoretical insights and practical tools that will improve their capacity to analyse governance challenges at different levels and how they relate to processes of violent conflict and development. Graduates will understand and be able to analyse, from the local to the global level, the governance problems confronting developing countries today. Theoretical insights, policy strategies and best practices as well as failures are explored in order that graduates could apply this knowledge in their future professional environments.

The Master’s programme in Governance and Development offers two tracks with specific objectives, courses and target audiences. The first track explores governance and development issues against the background of violent conflict and the challenge of post-conflict state reconstruction. The second addresses governance and development challenges from the particular perspective of local institutions and poverty reduction.

Admission requirements

The following candidates are eligible to apply for the Master’s programmes:

• Applicants from the South must hold a university degree (Bachelor or Master) of at least four years of study in Social Sciences (Economics, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, or related disciplines). Applicants from the South who hold a Bachelor’s degree of only three years of study must demonstrate very strong and relevant professional experience and/or have successfully completed additional training. Applicants from the North must hold a Master’s degree in Social Sciences Only applicants with excellent academic records will be accepted.

• Our ideal participant has at least two years of professional experience in a sector relevant to the programme. Applicants from the North should have relevant field experience in the South.

• Applicants must be proficient in English. Those who have received a university education in English must provide an official certificate confirming this. Other applicants must submit one of the following test results:

o TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): minimum score of 550 for paper-based test or 79 for Internet-based test. Information about this test is available at www.toefl.org.

o IELTS (International English Language Testing System): minimum score of 6.0. Information about this test is available at www.ielts.org.

o Special facilities are offered for students from other language backgrounds (in particular for French-speaking students). Students with paper-based TOEFL scores between 500 and 550 (or TOEFL Internet-based between 61 and 79) or IELTS scores between 5.0 and 6.0 may also be admitted provided they successfully complete a two-month intensive language course organised by the University of Antwerp before the start of the Master’s programme. For students selected for a VLIR-UOS scholarship, the cost of this language course is borne by the Institute (see below for details).

Scholarships By Grade Level

When most people think of college scholarships, they think of awards given to college freshmen based on applications submitted during their senior years of high school. While many scholarships do fit this description, this is by no means the case for all awards. In fact, there is free money awarded to students at every grade level.

A few scholarships will have open eligibility, allowing anyone who meets basic requirements to apply, whether they are high school (or even middle school) students, college students, or graduate or professional students. Many such awards may be sweepstakes contests, or awards based on specific activities, such as community service. Others may divide awards by grade level or age group and give out multiple scholarship prizes. These allow for a broad appeal but still ensure that students with more educational experience and therefore stronger academic skills don’t have an unfair advantage when it comes to winning scholarships.
Many providers limit scholarships by grade level

More commonly, though, scholarships are targeted to specific age groups or grade levels. These might range in specificity from a scholarship for high school juniors born in a particular calendar year to a scholarship for anyone who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or professional program. While scholarship competitions that limit eligibility to students in a particular grade in high school or year in college are fairly common, more general eligibility categories are probably what you’re likely to see the most.

By limiting their eligibility requirements to one group of students, scholarship providers are ensuring that students who take the time to enter their contest are competing with students of similar levels of educational attainment. This can help ensure a high quality pool of applicants, and also assist scholarship providers in judging the submitted applications more fairly. For example, mistakes that are common and easily forgiven in an essay by a high school junior are not so common or easily forgiven in an essay by a doctoral student.
Scholarships for High School Students

Scholarships for high school students are probably the most common category of scholarships by grade level. High school students are planning on starting college for the first time and likely don’t have other sources of funding lined up. Scholarships for high school students, therefore, are creating an investment in a student right at the beginning of his or her academic career and are providing funding that is likely desperately sought.
Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

Not everyone has four years of funding locked in when they arrive on campus the first day, and many students may find themselves continuing their scholarship search throughout all four years of college. Unexpected expenses arise, grades fluctuate, and plans change as students spend time in school, so a student who may not have been a prime candidate for a scholarship as a high school student may become one as a college sophomore or junior. Many scholarship providers recognize these changes and have created scholarships for undergraduate students who are successfully continuing their studies beyond the first year of college.
Scholarships for Graduate Students

While less common than the other varieties, scholarships for graduate students are available. Graduate students typically rely heavily on fellowships or assistantships, but these aren’t available to everyone and don’t always cover a graduate student’s living expenses. Therefore, a number of scholarship providers are willing to help graduate students finish the last leg of their educational journeys by providing a bit of extra funding.

General Information

The Office of Admissions along with the Office of Financial Aid administer the majority of Scholarships at the University of New Mexico. Scholarships are traditionally known as merit based, and a competitive process usually accompanies the activities surrounding selection and monitoring of the various programs. Major responsibilities and duties within the scholarship structure deal with the formation of student programs and the administration of these programs.

Specifically, there are four major scholarship functions for which these offices are responsible:

* Institutional Scholarships include, but are not limited to: the Regents', National, Presidential, UNM Scholars, Omega, PACE and Transfer Scholarships. These programs are funded by several sources, including outside private donations;

* State Funded Scholarships include, but are not limited to: NM Legislative Lottery Scholarship, Amigo and NM Scholars. These programs are funded by the state of New Mexico;

* Departmental Scholarships are selected at the department levels, but the actual student awarding and administration is handled within this office;

* Private and Outside Scholarships include hundreds of programs which flow through our process. These programs are also selected by outside mechanisms, but are ultimately included in our scholarship process.

Overall, these offices oversee the administration of over 50 million dollars in scholarships awarded each year at the University of New Mexico.

Overview

The Tim Russert Fellowship will be awarded to one motivated, passionate graduating senior interested in pursuing a career in political journalism. The Fellowship is a one-year, paid position in the NBC News Washington, D.C. bureau. The fellow will work on a rotational basis in several areas of the Washington Bureau including “Meet the Press” and the NBC News Political Unit. Responsibilities will include assisting talent and producers, participating in news shoots, and story research. Brain Image Segmentation and Surface Labeling: The successful candidate should have a strong background on Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science, preferably with emphasis on image processing and pattern recognition. Experience on medical image segmentation and analysis is highly desirable. People with machine learning background are particularly encouraged to apply. Knowledge on neuroscience and programming background (good command of LINUX, C and C++, scripting, and Matlab) are desirable. The research topic will be the development and validation of methods for atlas-based tissue segmentation (of neonatal brain images) and cortical surface labeling of brain images.

Deformable Segmentation: The successful candidate should have a strong background on Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science, preferably with emphasis on image feature extraction, shape representation, and shape statistics. Experience on medical image segmentation using deformable surface, level sets, and graph cut is highly desirable. People with machine learning background on image features and shape statistics are particularly encouraged to apply. Entry requirements Admission requirements are as follows: students must have a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent of that degree from a non-U.S. institution, and they must have earned a 3.0 (out of 4) Grade Point Average in all undergraduate and graduate coursework. International applicants should demonstrate a proficiency in the English language by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Minimum TOEFL scores of 100 in IBT and IELTS of 7 are required.

Application details Applicants must send the completed Graduate School Application along with the following items for admission: non-refundable $60 application fee, official copy of all previous degrees/diplomas and transcripts issued in the original language with a literal English translation, official test scores of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS), and proof of liquid finances to cover one year?s worth of expenses. If applicants have a sponsor, then they must submit the Certificate of Finances/Cost of Attendance form or a letter of guarantee completed and signed by the sponsor. If the sponsor is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, an official, notarized Affidavit of Support (I-134 form signed by all sponsors) must be submitted. FULBRIGHT Master`s Degree Program

FULBRIGHT MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM

Preference will be given to applicants who serve as faculty members of state and private institutions of higher education in Indonesia. Applicants will possess:
1. a Sarjana (S1) degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.00 scale)
2. leadership qualities
3. a good understanding of Indonesian and international cultures a
4. demonstrated commitment to the chosen field of study
5. a willingness to return to Indonesia upon completion of the Fulbright program
6. a minimum TOEFL score of 550

HOW TO APPLY
Candidates should complete the appropriate application forms. Forms are available either by mail or in person at the AMINEF Office, Gedung Balai Pustaka, 6th floor, Jl. Gunung Sahari Raya 4, Jakarta 10720.



Please return to AMINEF your complete application package by the application deadline that includes:
1. Completed application form. This includes a clearly written and concise study objective.
2. Copy of your most recent, less than two years old, TOEFL score report.
3. One letter of reference, either from your current employer or previous lecturer.
4. Copy of academic transcript (English translation).
5. Copy of identity document (KTP or passport).
