Procedure
For the first selection round candidates are required to draw up a 1-page plan for a PhD project that fits in the Research programme The Remaking of Religion and Church in a Pluralistic and Individualistic Society. Candidates should first contact one of the professors participating in the programme, who will assist them in preparing their plan, and who are willing to supervise this PhD project.

After an evaluation of all applications, the best candidates will be invited to write an extensive description of their PhD project for a second selection round.
Requirements
University Graduate
For the position we seek a candidate with a (research) master degree in Theology or a related field, a strong interest in doing research and excellent academic qualifications and writing skills. Developing and defending a project plan within the research programme will be part of the procedure.

The Tilburg School of Theology is the only faculty of Catholic theology in the Netherlands that is recognized by the Church. Besides offering scholarly education, preparing students for ecclesiastical office, the faculty also offers a research-masters programme in theology. The facultys main offices are located in Utrecht, but a full programme of studies is also taught in Tilburg.

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2000 - 2500

Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 1 year

Additional conditions of employment:
The selected candidate will start with a contract for one year, concluded by an assessment. Upon a positive outcome of the assessment after the first year, the candidate will be offered a contract for the remaining years (2 or 3 years, depending on the previous degrees of the candidate). Concretely, a candidate with a Research Master (MPhil) will be offered an additional 2 year-contract. Candidates with a Professional Masters degree will be offered an additional 3 year-contract.
According to the Dutch university salary scale system (UFO) a PhD candidate (promovendus) receives a starting salary of minimally 2.042.-- gross per month in the first year, and receives up to 2.492.-- in the third year or 2.612.-- in the fourth year (amounts are based on a fulltime position). The selected candidate is expected to have written a PhD thesis (which may be based on articles) by the end of the contract .
